A Lovely Birthday!

So I had a birthday this past week. On Thursday I turned 35! I guess I'm officially on the back half of my 30s & speeding rapidly towards that next BIG, round number 4-0!!! I cannot complain though, life is good, God is good & I am truly blessed! I have to laugh now looking back to my 34th birthday...this year didn't have far to go to already be miles above my last birthday...When I turned 34 I was pregnant with awful morning sickness AND I was recovering from a violent stomach flu that had kept me in bed throwing up for the preceding 36 hours...now that is a birthday that I will not soon forget! And for the two prior years, I remember having horrible colds on my birthday! Thankfully this year, despite one or another of the kids being sick for the past 2 weeks, God granted me grace & allowed me to feel wonderful & be healthy on my birthday!

I had a great day! My sweet mom took the day off of work & we spent the morning doing our favorite mother-daughter activity--shopping! The older 3 kids were in school, so with just the baby, we could go several places. And my mom was kind to spoil me with many fun things! Then, Jeff & my dad met us for a delicious lunch at a cute diner. After that, the afternoon was filled with school pick-ups as usual, but when we had gotten all of the kids we did a little more shopping...we decided to get a few pumpkins to help it feel more like fall...because the temperature was 90 degrees and HUMID! For sure, the hottest birthday I can remember!

After our busy afternoon, Jeff's kind parents came over to babysit so Jeff & I could go out to dinner. We just went to a very casual place to get burgers, but we talked the whole time...without interruptions! So simple, but it was honestly a perfect end to a great day! Just not having to do baths & bedtime was a treat (not that I don't love my kids & enjoy spending time with them, but y'all know what I mean!)

And to top it off, when we returned home from dinner (to a nice quiet house!), I was greeted by this: (See the little arrow taped under the light switch...)

I have such sweet kiddoes! Jack & Sophie had been whispering earlier in the day about some secret plan...Jack made a birthday sign for me, then he & Sophie taped the little arrows up where they knew I would come in from dinner. I followed them all the way to the office, where the last one pointed directly to my chair and a big Happy Birthday sign taped there!

The sweet sign that greeted me on my office chair (do I spend too much time there?)...

In addition, Sophie worked very hard this afternoon to make me a sweet card which she presented to me along with her present...a prized bead necklace she had made at school & a $1 bill...because she knows Mommy & Daddy are trying to save lots of money to fix our new house! Aw, my heart melted!

And here is the new stroller I mentioned briefly in the last post! On my birthday eve, on our way out the door to church, Jeff surprised me with the stroller that I have had my eye on since Drew was born. It is a Phil & Ted's in-line double stroller. It can function as a single stroller or a double that is basically the same size as a single. And it is super easy to convert from one to the other. I LOVE it! It is super lightweight & "drives" really well! Here it is with both kids...
And here it is with just Drew...this was when we were shopping on my birthday. Of course Yaya couldn't resist getting a little treat for her grandbaby, too!

So, I have to say that 35 feels pretty good so far! And, I am so blessed & thankful to have such a sweet family that makes me feel special, not just on my birthday, but every day!

Word{less} Wednesday: Random Odds & Ends

The two Ds & I took a little walk today. I don't know why I don't do this more often, but they both enjoyed it! Big smiles (and this was even before I even got my new stroller! More on that to come tomorrow!)

Drew enjoying some snuggle time with Yaya!

We had fun going out for ice cream on Friday night.

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY
Monday, September 14, 2009...
Outside my window...the sound of a wood chipper. Neighbors are having a large tree cut down in the front yard. Makes me so sad to see so many nice large trees that have died as a result of the houses being built too close to the roots or construction vehicles driven over the roots.
I am thinking...that I hope the rest of our family stays healthy. Darcy has a probable case of the H1N1 flu (they are not doing the test anymore since they are becoming inundated with cases.) It is really pretty mild so far & we pray that she is well soon & the rest of us stay healthy.
I am thankful for...my husband for doing multiple school drop-offs & pick-ups today, so that I didn't have to take Darcy out of the house; Sophie spending the afternoon organizing her room; Jack helping keep Drew entertained; Darcy taking a nap!
From the learning rooms...helping Jack with his homework on our Community.
From the kitchen...I'm thinking a nice soup would be good for dinner!
I am wearing...green capri pants & a black shirt...I haven't left the house today.
I am creating...hmmm, lots of ideas floating around for our home renovation project...also thinking of fall decorating ideas...but all just ideas at this point!
I am going...nowhere right now, until the kids are feeling better!
I am reading...email, facebook & blogs. Oh, and what comes home in my kids' folders each day!
I am hoping...that everyone gets & stays healthy!
I am hearing...quiet (the wood chipper has gone home!); squeals from Drew exploring on the floor beside me; faintly the sounds of Jack & Sophie playing in the garage "fort."
Around the house...Drew is definitely starting to be mobile...scooting now on his belly, but also getting to his knees & trying pushing with his toes, almost like he's doing a push-up! So cute, but he's starting to get into things! Crawling is in our near future!
One of my favorite things...Baby feet! I seriously love Drew's pudgy feet & little toes!
A few plans for the rest of the week: Just doing what I can depending on who is sick...
Here is picture thought I am sharing...okay, you know me, I like pictures, so here are several...
First those yummy baby feet!

Next a series of photos showing what Darcy feels would make a good breakfast...

Last a few of Drew who is 4 months old TODAY! Ooops, corrected to say SIX months old! He's growing up & my brain is obviously not keeping pace!

DO Try this at Home!

So it occurred to me one day that I back-up my computer (somewhat regularly), but how can I back-up my blog? I searched a little bit online & actually didn't come up with much, so I let it go...but the thought kept nagging at me that I would be heartbroken to lose everything if something should happen to Blogger. Then one day, quite by accident, while I was searching for blog design tutorials that I noticed a banner at The Cutest Blog on the Block advertising blog books from SharedBook

I clicked on it and in less than 5 minutes my "Blog Book" was created, ordered & on its way to me! Wow, simple, fast and totally user friendly! You can order the books in hardcover, softcover or a .pdf file. I chose softcover because it was bit less expensive.

I have created several digital photo albums before and I love those, too. But while they take (me) hours & hours to create, to get the right layout and add the journaling, etc...this was faster than fast! I just entered my blog address & it automatically imported it all! I chose a cover picture, typed a dedication page & was done! Have I mentioned that it was fast, and easy?? You can also choose to just use certain posts if you prefer, so I will do this next time when I make a book for the next 6 or so months.

So if you've been looking for a way to enjoy your Blog in printed form, give it a try! Or if you have other suggestions on ways to preserve your blog in printed or digital form, please share!! I would still like to know how to back-up my blog on my computer.

And please excuse the bad photos of my blog book taken in the front seat of my car with assorted kids toys used to prop it up...right after I received the book in the mail, my mom wanted to take it on her trip to visit family, so I had to take a couple of really quick photos!

Wordless Wednesday--Brotherly love!

(And I must admit that when I saw this cute moment, I was actually on my way to find out what happened to Darcy who had fallen down & was screaming...we were all hurriedly trying to get ready & out the door to Awana...but I when I saw this sweet sight, I did indeed go right out to the car to retrieve the camera so I could take a few pictures before the moment passed!)

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY Tuesday, September 1, 2009...
Outside my window...Sunshine & a gentle breeze ruffling the leaves that are green for now, but soon to become colorful!
I am thinking...that I have the sweetest baby in the world & I wonder if he will sleep long enough for me to finish this post...we have taken the girls to school & he fell asleep on the way home, but he has still not had his morning feeding. I am also thinking about summer's rapid descent into fall, and that I'm not quite sure I'm ready for it yet...
I am thankful for...sunshine, rain, my husband, my kids, each new day, God's UNFAILING mercy & faithfulness...
From the learning rooms...thankful that my kids love to go to school & have such wonderful teachers!
From the kitchen...nothing right now, but that crock-pot of mine is calling my name...also hoping to get to Trader Joe's today for some groceries.
I am wearing...jeans (fall is coming!) and a green t-shirt.
I am creating...hmmm, not much in the creative department this week.
I am going...hopefully to Trader Joe's & then school pick-ups...
I am reading...sadly, nothing comes to mind. I love getting my 411God email each morning, God's words spoken to me...
I am hoping...that things will go quickly & smoothly with our new house renovation project...
I am hearing...I think Drew is waking up, so I should hurry...
Around the house...I am hoping to be productive this week in continuing to ready our house for the market...many more closets to clean out & stuff to de-clutter...but it feels good to set things in order!
One of my favorite things...Ice cream! A sweet Secret Heart Sister (secret pal) gave me a gift card to Coldstone that is burning a hole in my purse...
A few plans for the rest of the week: Playroom closet, Jack's closet, Hall closet, pantry, pantry, pantry, Office closet, Laundry area...plus lots of drop-offs & pick-ups & a couple of "mom" meetings for the kids new classes...
Here is picture thought I am sharing...
