Jeff had the privilege & joy of taking the big girls to a Father-Daughter Date Night at church a couple of weeks ago. I love that he is intentional about taking the girls out on special "dates" every couple of months. They will run an errand (our girls already love to shop!) & enjoy dinner at the fancy establishment of their choice (you know, like, McDonald's or Chic-fil-a!)
Really I think the girls would be happy picking up the dry cleaning, as long as they get to spend special time with Daddy!
Lucy will have to wait a couple of years before she can join in on the fun, but she definitely already has a soft spot for her daddy!
And the feeling is mutual!
It was so cute to see Sophie & Darcy's excitement while getting ready for the date-night. The special care they took getting dressed & fixing their hair...a sneak peek of what it will be like when there are much anticipated dates & the prom (waaaay) ahead, but it makes my heart smile that right now they only have eyes for Daddy!
In fact, just the other day, both girls told me that they want to marry Daddy when they grow up because he is just the best...and of course I agreed, but told them, sorry, he's already taken! Sophie, in particular, has had a lot of questions lately about who she will marry. I explained to her that when she gets older & prays about it, that God will reveal to her who the right person is. She asked if God will just tell her his name! But I explained that it is something she will feel in her heart...and then she said, "Oh, and my heart will tell my mind!"
Since the Father-Daughter Date Night, we have actually been talking a lot about the qualities that make a great husband. They actually brought home a really cute book from the date-night called The Person I Marry by Gary & Jan Bower and the girls have asked Jeff to read it to them almost every night.
Kind, forgiving, unselfish, patient, faithful, loving, wise, tender, honest, sincere, self-controlled, having integrity, gentle, hard-working, persevering, dependable, fun-loving and God-fearing...these are just some of the wonderful qualities that the book talks about are so important to look for in your future mate. (And as the book points out, it's always good to work on these traits in ourselves, too!)
I'm so thankful that our girls have such a wonderful example! Jeff is a man of great integrity & gentleness, he is hard-working & selfless, he loves the Lord & leads our family with great wisdom. Our girls (and boys!) know that they are important to him because he makes them (and me!) a priority, it shows in where & how he spends his time. Even better than any book, he is a real-life picture for our girls of a godly husband...and a wonderful example for our boys to follow!
