As I sat down to write this I glanced at the floor to the left of my computer desk, as I have done countless times before, but now the spot looks so bare.
Yesterday we lost a beloved family member & faithful friend.
Yesterday we had to say goodbye to our sweet, energetic, loyal, protective & patient (oh, so patient!) dog, Zoe.
After 11 1/2 years of excited tail wagging, back-side wiggling greetings & dog breath kisses, it was time.
For a while we have known the day was coming, but Zoe had a way of always bouncing back & beating the odds!
She surely had a zest for life & was a happy, sweet girl to the end.
The kids are taking it pretty well, we were all emotional yesterday.
Today, Drew just keeps asking "Where's Zoe? Did Zoe go to work with Daddy?" (Because Jeff had come home from work to take her to the vet several times in the past few weeks.)
We took a little time on Tuesday evening to shoot some last pictures with our sweet girl.
She always was very photogenic!
She had not eaten anything in 3 days & so she tired easily.
Just looking back at pictures from a few months ago the change is dramatic.
Zoe always loved to be where the love was!
It all happened so fast...
In the last 2 weeks she had gone from partially blind in one eye to completely blind in both eyes.

We think her cancer from a few years ago had come back as she seemed to be in a lot of pain recently & she was one to not generally show pain. Since she was not eating, she was dropping weight rapidly & had gotten so skinny her backbone & ribs were sticking out. You can see how loose her collar is in the photo above. Our sweet girl was wasting away.
She was a special part of our family & she is already dearly missed. She was a pal, a playmate, a sounding board, a wrestling partner, the most loyal & loving friend. Each one of the kids has at some point today expressed to me how much they miss her. So does Jeff, so do I.
Rest in Peace sweet Zoe

Zoe at 1 year old
(I spent a great deal of time yesterday & today combing through 11 1/2 years worth of digital photos, looking back over Zoe's life & our life with her. I want to share those photos with you & had hoped to do so now, but am having uploading issues. I will post a retrospective soon! I can't wait for you to see how cute Zoe was as a puppy! When we got her she was the same size as our cat, Sammy! Stay tuned!!)
Her energy was gone, but she always had a smile!
