Simple Woman's Daybook





FOR TODAY

Monday, October 12th, the late edition...
Outside my window...dark & still, as once again I am sitting down to write this at bedtime...though I did sit on the couch to watch a TV show with Jeff, so that was nice.
I am thinking...has it already been a week since I last blogged? I have had so many blog ideas running through my brain this past week & often I will even start "writing" new posts in my mind...just haven't found the right USB cable to download them yet!
I am thankful for...fall, friends, family, faith & rainy days!
From the kitchen...Cool Autumn days make me feel like cooking again, so tonight we had home made chicken pot pie & applesauce (from a jar.) I have to say that the kids ate up the food & kept talking about how yummy it was & giving me the thumbs up sign...oh, if they could always eat so merrily!
I am wearing...jean trousers, white shirt & velour zippy jacket. Socks & my Croc sandals. I have enjoyed pulling socks out of the drawer once again!
I am remembering…obviously, I'm very forgetful because I distinctly remember thinking of this particular line earlier today & thinking about what I would write, but now I've forgotten it!
I am creating...furniture layouts in my mind for our new house...even though the renovation has just begun!
I am going...to hopefully get to go to my Moms group in the morning & STAY the whole time...my crazy day last Tuesday is a whole blog post in & of itself...
I am reading...Shepherding a Child's Heart for said Moms group. I read this book when Jack was a baby, but it is great to go back to it. I need the refresher & reminder of what the goal is.
I am hoping...to learn more about ISO & f-stop and all that fun camera stuff, so that I can learn how to take better photos.
I am hearing...Nothing but the whirring of my computer and the click of my fingers on the keyboard.
Noticing that…I need a haircut. I generally get my hair cut twice a year or less!
Pondering these words…For, "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever." 1 Peter 1: 24-25
On my mind…wondering if we will ever get our house to the point we feel good about putting it on the market...hmmm, we sure do want to sell it...but I really am trusting that God has the right buyer at the right time...for the right price...
Around the house...you know those closets still need organizing & decluttering...but we did make some progress in the garage this weekend.
I am excited about...renovations have begun on the new/old house! I am thrilled with all of the possibilities that lay ahead, I know it is going to be challenging, but we are very excited none-the-less!

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...Sharing a few "before" pictures of the new house...brace yourselves...
The kitchen...I actually kind of wish we could keep the retro aqua oven, but those upper cabinets have to go to open up the room a bit! So alas, the oven must go, too.

The "formal living room"...we will use this for our dining room and the old dining room (where I'm standing to take this picture) will become our office. A 12 foot opening has already been cut in the long wall opposite the windows to open things up to the family room.

The laundry room/mud room...can you tell the wall paper is yellow with daisies all over it...even the ceiling is wall-papered!

The basement...this shows part of the main room on the lower level which we will use as a den/playroom/room-to-fit-everything-else that doesn't fit elsewhere! There is also a good sized bedroom, bathroom & storage room in the basement.

Front of the house from the road...this was taken in winter, you can hardly see the house with the trees full of leaves. I'm envisioning lots of football games, Easter egg hunts, etc. on this lawn! Needless to say, we've got some landscaping to do, but I know a guy...

Back of the house...this one was taken in spring when the trees were budding...we have lots of Dogwoods, my favorite!

The barn...yes, we have a barn & I think I love this almost as much as the house! Unfortunately, I think there are now city ordinances against livestock, but how cute would it be to have some chickens!

Well, that's probably all you can bear for now...I'll share the bedrooms & bathrooms later...the love affair with wall paper did not end in the laundry room...

The Simple Woman's Daybook


FOR TODAY...October 5th
Outside my window...dark & cool, but no more rain. I did not get a chance all day to work on this, so here I am at bedtime writing my daybook!

I am thinking...that I hope to make it to my moms group in the morning. Looking forward to the fellowship & instruction.

I am thankful for...my husband, who is wonderful & funny & such a great daddy to our kids! Oh, and he does the majority of the laundry around here!

I am wearing...yellow/goldish shirt & charcoal grey Matilda Jane pants. No jewelry, as I reach a point usually after dinner when I cannot stand having any jewelry on for another minute! Doesn't sound so good right now, but it was very cute earlier today with my striped rain boots & bright red jacket.

I am remembering...that I still need to switch my office wall calendar to October, has September really gone?


I am creating...lots of mental lists.

I am going...to hopefully get to bed soon!

I am reading...The Whipping Boy by Sid Fleischman. Jack was assigned this book at school to read for a project & report. I had not heard of it, but read the first 20 or 30 pages tonight.

I am hoping...that we all stay healthy for a good long stretch now...like maybe for the rest of the fall & winter, that would suit me just fine!

I am hearing...quiet, blissful quiet!

On my mind...selling our house. Renovations starting on the new house this week. That we need to "put-up or shut-up" about getting our current house on the market...it's do or die time!

Noticing that...it's getting late & I need to wrap this up!

Pondering these words...whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things...Philippians 4:8

From the kitchen...I need to go & put together the tomato-basil-mozzarella bites I'm taking for our luncheon tomorrow! Had a delicious chili tonight for supper, perfect for a rainy fall day.

Around the house...still those pesky closets needing to be cleaned out...I'm nearing the stage of just throwing stuff in boxes to get it out of here...but I would rather actually take the time to sort what we need vs. what we can get rid of.

Summer Wrap-Up

Can you believe it is already October, I think I sneezed & practically missed the whole month of September! We are thankful to have had an amazing, laid-back summer with lots of fun-filled days on the lake. School started back mid-August and so ended our lazy lake days. To close out the season on a great note, we spent Labor Day weekend on the lake and tried to jam in enough water-activity fun to last us through the winter...I'm not sure our plan worked though, as the kids were just asking in the car yesterday, "When are we going back to the lake??" And frequently when we are in the car on the way home from somewhere, just as we turn into our neighborhood Darcy will start saying, "No this home! Lake house! Boat!"

We all have so many fond memories from this summer! Here are some pictures of our good times over Labor Day.

The Simple Woman's Daybook



FOR TODAY...September 28th

Outside my window...a GORGEOUS fall day! Dazzling sunshine, perfect temperature, beautiful sky!

I am thinking...about how much I love my new stroller & how nice it is that I have started taking little walks around the neighborhood in the mornings...not that I needed a new stroller to do that, but it has been a nice perk!

I am thankful for...quiet, my kids' nap time!

I am wearing...black capri pants, grey Matilda Jane shirt & flip flops. Oh, and big earrings because when I am dressed "bummy" they make me feel put together!

I am remembering...that I only came downstairs for something quick before going back upstairs to take sheets off the beds...I think that was an hour ago!

I am going...to try listing some of my Matilda Jane trunk items from last year on ebay today.

I am reading...a couple of devotionals from the Sheri Rose Shepherd conference; This Old House magazine; and I would like to start reading Philippians or Colossians today.

I am hoping...that Drew's cough goes away very soon & that everyone stays healthy this fall & winter.


I am hearing...Drew's happy squeals as Darcy entertains him with the feather dusters; Darcy's giggles.

Noticing that...the top of one of the maple trees is starting to turn red.


Pondering these words...Holy, Holy, Holy is the LORD God Almighty, who was and IS and is to come...(from The Revelation Song by Kari Jobe, Revelation 4:8)

On my mind...persecution.

From the kitchen...hmmmmmmm? Ideas anyone?

Around the house...sheets, picking-up, emptying dishwasher, and oh, still have those closets waiting to be de-cluttered before we sell our house!

One of my favorite things...singing! I don't have a great voice, but I sure like to sing!
