We've been soccer practicing for several weeks now, but this weekend we kicked-off the season with the first games! Saturday morning found us on the soccer fields watching both Jack & Sophie play in their first games this year. Jeff is coaching Sophie's team & Jack is playing on a good friend's team. They both play at the same time, so Drew, Darcy & I will get our exercise traveling back & forth between fields to catch all the action on game days. Sophie is playing in a co-ed 4 on 4 division (no goalie.) After a couple of years playing flag football, Jack wanted to play soccer again this year, so he is playing on an all boys' team with a goalie. Both kids scored a goal in their first games, so the seasons are off to a great start!
Here are some shots of the kids in action.
It gets hot out on the fields, but our sweet friend, Sophie, made sure Drew drank plenty of water!
I'm not sure if you can see Sophie's big grin in the above photo, but this was taken right after she scored her goal!
Drew also entertained himself by stuffing peaches in his mouth!
Jack's team running off the field victorious!
Darcy found a comfy place to sit!
Since it was the season opener, they also had a mini-carnival set up for the kids complete with face painting, bouncy houses & more...
We let the kids get face painting or temporary tattoos, but we didn't stay too long because we had other fun things on the agenda for the day. From the fields, we headed home so everyone could change clothes & then hopped on a train to head uptown to the Greek Festival! (Well, if you know our city, we drove 20 minutes to the train for a quick ride uptown...our city only has one train line!)Darcy was the careful observer of all that was going around on & outside of the train.
Jack is at that stage where he finds it funny to make silly faces when his picture is being taken...
Below: Drew was absolutely giddy on the train ride, peeking over the seats & laughing & Jack & Sophie's antics.
It was raining a little bit, and we didn't know if we would get rained out at the festival. But since it is also a treat for the kids ride on the train, we decided to go for it...even if it meant we turned right back around & rode the train back home (er, back to the car to drive 20 minutes home.)Anyway, being that my mom is Greek, I can remember always enjoying going to the Greek Festival when I was a little girl. I loved the sights, the sounds, the people, the food! Yesterday, my mom was taking several of her friends from work to experience the festival. We hoped to run into them there. So we rode the train & took a free shuttle from the station to the church. When we got to the festival, it was sprinkling a little bit, but the temperature was pleasant. We found my mom & her friends, who had been there all morning & they were just finishing up their yummy desserts! We were able to visit with them for a few minutes before they headed home. By then, it was raining in earnest, so we found a table under a big tent & sat down to enjoy some food while we watched the Greek Dancing & listened to the live music. We were all famished & scarfed down our food...and then it was onto dessert! Jeff took a couple of the kids to go pick out an assortment...this would be a much better blog post if I had taken pictures of each delicacy to show you, but it was raining & I was watching 4 kids around a big table under a tent crowded with lots of people...so here's what I have...
Darcy & I enjoying the music
Jack making another silly camera face
Drew entertaining himself going through the contents of the diaper bag. He had no nap all day long & was amazingly happy the whole time!
Sweet Sophie enjoying her sweet treats!
Drew enjoying some cookies...
Powdered sugar & goodness
Drew enjoying more cookies...
I really don't know what's going on in this picture, but that's so our life!
Darcy enjoying some sweets...
and getting powdered sugar all over herself! (But doesn't she look so dainty with her pinky in the air! LOL!)
Drew got a few crumbs on himself, too...
But that didn't stop him from enjoying still more cookies...this may have something to do with why he was so happy all day...the boy definitely has a sweet tooth!
Darcy doing a little dancing of her own.
Jack being Jack
Drew doing his best squirrel impression...look at those cheeks full of cookies!
Oh, and to top it off, we let the kids get cotton candy!
Sophie had really wanted to get cotton candy at the soccer game, but we told her we were going to another festival and so we had promised to get some there...
And then we wrapped things up & walked the 6 blocks back to the train.
Here the kids are waiting for the train to come & everyone is SO thirsty...I wonder why?
And I'll leave you with Drew saying "Cheese" for the camera!
That wraps up our Current Events: Weekend Update...I promise to get back to our regularly scheduled Summer in Pictures series with due haste...I still have like 7 weeks to cover or I know y'all will feel cheated!
Have a blessed week!
