Another Lazy Day...

...or NOT!

Yes, finally the lazy days of summer are here, but right now I'm actually going to share with you a different kind of lazy
Back in May, before school was out, the whole family joined Sophie's Kindergarten class on a field trip to the Lazy 5 Ranch. We love visiting the Lazy 5 & I think this was our 6th trip there, having been before both for school trips & on our own. The Lazy 5 Ranch is kind of like a zoo, but a whole lot more up-close & personal! They have all kinds of animals from pot belly pigs to emus to deer to llamas to to bison to longhorn cattle to zebras, and of course the giraffes, my personal favorite. Over 700 animals from all over the world call the Lazy 5 home. And you can ride through the ranch (in your own car/truck or on one of their horse-drawn wagons) on a 3.5 mile tour to view & feed the animals.

Here is a little look back at all the fun we had on our very "lazy" day!
Sophie & some of her friends from school!
We had a little time to explore the farm animals while we waited to board our wagon ride. Springtime at the Lazy 5 means lots of new babies! Like these sweet little kids.
Drew looking at the baby goats
Jack making sure I don't get a good photo of him
Another lovely face, you think he'd be happier about missing a day of school to go on a field trip!
Checking out the colorful parrot, but even more impressive...I caught Jack smiling!
Our wagon coming into the station!
Lucy was sleeping when we boarded the wagon, so we nestled her carseat under the middle bench seats.
And we're off to feed the animals! Everyone got their own bucked full of feed for the animals.
This is Drew's first visit to the ranch & he's all smiles!
Tiny baby potbelly pigs! The wagon driver said these were less than a day old!
Drew thinks it is hysterical to actually be encouraged to throw food!
At home we are always telling him not to throw food to our dog, so this is a real treat!
We thought Darcy might be a little timid, but she loved feeding the animals, too!
 Jack feeding an emu
Darcy's turn
 King of the Hill
 Oh, Zebras!
This guy had a bit of an attitude & didn't want to get out of our way! Zebras are one of a few animals at the ranch that you are not allowed to feed from your hand. Unlike most of the animals there who have soft upper palates, Zebras have upper teeth.

High fives!

Our group was split up between 2 wagons and, of course, Sophie hopped right on the first wagon with her friends & left us in the dust! So I only have a few photos of her that I was able to snap when our wagons were close to each other!
Look who's up next...the giraffes, my favorites!
They pulled the wagon right up beside the giraffe enclosure so we could pet & feed the giraffes.
Darcy posing with a baby giraffe
 Look, there's Sophie's group!
Drew was not too fond of being so close to the giraffes. They may have had bad breath?

 Next up, the rhinoceros!
I think the guide said he weighs over a ton!
 Holy spotted cow!
This guy sure was friendly & liked Jeff a lot...can you see the long tongue licking Jeff's arm/shoulder?
Jeff said he had bad breath, too!

Drew thinks that is one crazy cow!
We've reached the end of the ride & Lucy's still sound asleep! She was such a trooper!
Once off the wagons we headed over to the petting zoo area to empty the feed buckets.

 Still sleeping!
From the petting zoo on to the camels! Talk about bad breath! Ick!

Cute little mules or donkeys

And after we finished feeding all of the animals...
It was time to feed ourselves! (After everyone scrubbed their hands, of course!) We all enjoyed a picnic lunch. Here are the girls with Sophie's fantastic teacher!
And before hopping back into the car for the drive home...a little playground fun!
And that's it for our very Lazy day!
