Best.Playdate.Ever

On Friday, our sweet friend Ginger hosted a summer play group at her house for our Adult Life Group (Sunday School class.) Ginger has definitely been blessed with the gift of hospitality & when she does something, she goes all out to ensure a fun & fabulous event for everyone! Friday's playgroup was no exception & so nearly everyone in the class made plans to be there! Ginger & her husband Sam (who have also hosted our fabulous class Christmas party for several years) have six precious children, and there are several other families in our class also have 4, 5 and 6 children...so I think she had RSVPs for about 70 children & at least 20 adults!
We have had quite a bit of stormy weather the last few weeks, but thankfully the day was beautiful & not too hot. No worries about the heat though, Ginger had rented a huge dual inflatable water slide to keep the kids cool!
This is actually a rather small line for the water slides! Ginger's fabulous au pair, Lyese, did an awesome job of keeping everyone safe & orderly on the slides. For such a large crowd, I am thankful to report that the day went so smoothly, the chaos was relatively well contained & there were no injuries or boo-boos! Praise God!
Most of the pictures I took of Drew were of his back because he was so busy going from one thing to the next...there was plenty to keep him occupied! And when I actually did get pics of Drew's face, he always had this expression with his eyes all squinty & nose wrinkled up!
The big boys spent a lot of time bouncing & playing on the trampoline
Circling up for the lunchtime prayer
A whole lot of kids! (And several families had not even arrived yet!)
Ginger, the hostess-with-the-mostess, is lovely in the blue tank top
The girls waiting for lunch to be served! (I love that they, of course, picked the table with the purple table cloth!)
The boys
To keep things orderly during lunchtime, Ginger had the good idea to ask all of the children to be seated & the moms brought a plate of food out to their children. And, OH, I cannot believe I forgot to take a picture of the food! Ginger does not mess around when it comes to food & there was QUITE the spread covering her 12 foot long kitchen island! There were the makings for all kinds of sandwiches, chips, dips, fruit & more fruit, and cookies, cookies, cookies...and that's just about half! Let's just say that no one should have gone home hungry!
Drew found a spot on a blanket for lunch
After lunch, Darcy was one of the first ones back on the water slide! The girl loved the water slide & kept telling me she had been down it sixty-fifty times or or fifty-forty! (We have some further work to do on counting past 20!)
Drew even decided to have a go at it! He didn't have enough mass quite make it all the way down!
So he just ran the rest of the way...about every other step his feet would slip & fly up into the air & he would land flat on his back grinning like crazy!
Darcy, again!
Oh, Darcy did jump on the trampoline to mix things up a bit!
Sophie also had a lot of fun on the water slide...
Ah, refreshing!
Miss Lucy was her usual sweet, easy-going self! She enjoyed being passed around to several of the moms which allowed me to have hands free to chase Drew or snap cute pictures.
There's that scrunchy face again!
Did somebody say Snow Cones???
It's all good!
Sophie had a lot of fun hanging out with her girlfriends!
Drew loved the sandbox
Here he is ignoring my attempts to get his attention for a picture...
Okay, mom, I will look at you, but no smiles for you!
Darcy still having fun on the water slide!
I did it!
Ready to go again!
Drew found someone to take pity on him & give him a brownie!
The big boys now playing with nerf shooters on the trampoline
And then the boys organized an intense game of kick-ball
Drew & Nehemiah occupied themselves for quite a while playing with the bubbles
Drew kept pretending like he was going to sip the bubble solution...this picture was immediately preceded by me telling him, "Don't drink the bubbles!"
He didn't take a sip...he took a huge gulp & swallowed them down!
Looks like you should have listened to Mommy!
Having rebounded from the icky bubbles, Drew is back on his game squirting mommy with a water gun!
Hey look, Darcy's still at the water slide!
Time for the party to wrap-up...the kids got changed out of their wet bathing suits & were loading up the car to go home...
Uh-oh, they didn't get far...
...but we sure had LOTS of fun!!!
Thanks to the wonderful Walford family for the Best.Playdate.EVER!!
