Ready or Not...Here I Blog!

Well I guess this is it, my dive into that Brave New World that is Blogging!

I love to read blogs & I enjoy writing, so starting a blog had been in the back of my mind for a while. I finally got around to setting up my page & background last week. (Thanks Jenny for the info on where all the cool kids find their backgrounds!)

Truthfully, I have been putting off my inaugural blog post, feeling like I need to have something special or important or momentous to blog about. Nothing was coming to mind...thankfully life here has been pretty "normal" the past few weeks. THEN, I saw Celia today..."Oh, I added your Blog the reading list on my blog!" she said as she breezed out the door...

What, huh? A total Blogging novice, I didn't realize that once I set this baby up, she was out there & visible for all the world to see. Quite innocently I had posted a comment on Celia's blog last week, so I'm sure she viewed my profile & there she was...my little newborn blog!

Well, there is nothing like a little pressure to kick perfectionism in the behind...and that's what it was. I didn't just want a first post...I wanted a GREAT first post...the PERFECT first post. But as the header says, we are all about the IMperfect here. I've learned (okay, I'm learning) to let some things go...to put myself out there a bit and be open to honest responses...positive or negative. It's not easy and I don't always like it. Truth be told, I'd be quite happy to have my house look like the Pottery Barn catalog, complete with cute kids happily coloring in the art room and the docile dog smiling on the fluffy monogrammed dog bed. I'd like every party and event I throw to be worthy of the pages of Martha Stewart Living...but as pretty as they are, all those magazine photos are rather flat & 2-dimensional, having a semblance of real life, but not really depicting true living at all.

In our house, living gets messy, our dog is decidedly spastic & our kids' favorite spot for coloring is right in the middle of the kitchen floor...no matter how many times I remind them that there is a lovely (and usually uncluttered) table right beside them. That's life here and I would not trade it for anything!

It may not be the prettiest picture to print in a magazine, but for those pictures that are printed on your heart, the one I see in front of me right now is pretty hard to beat...Jack & Sophie side by side on the couch, shoulder-to-shoulder, while he reads an "Arthur" book to her and takes the time to let her ask questions about the story...now I'll take that over Pottery Barn any day!

Thanks for checking my blog out! I'm looking forward to this journey...
