AW-some Autumn Adventure!

Today was one of those gorgeous, crisp autumn days with blue skies & big puffy white clouds. It was the perfect day to head for the hills for a little fall farmin' adventure & that's just what we did. I put on my cowboy boots, loaded up the preschool trio, & we trekked out to Aw Shucks Farm for their Little Farm Hands experience.

This event has actually been on our calendar for over a month, but I didn't mention it to the kids until this weekend. It came in handy because both of the bigger kids have recently gotten to attend special parties or events, so Darcy was feeling a little left out. She sure lit up when I told her that we were meeting some of her friends from preschool & church at a farm/pumpkin patch. To be completely honest, I had been looking forward to the outing, but I was also feeling a bit sad to be losing a cozy Monday morning at home. With the 3 little ones at home & no where to be until school pick-up, Mondays have become one of my favorite days of the week. We can snuggle & take it easy in the morning, and then I can catch up on housework & get things back in order from the (always!) hectic weekend. Well, some days really are made for snuggling, but today was a day made for the out-of-doors!
The farm was nearly an hour away from our house, down in my old middle & high school 'hood. (We passed the schools on our way & the kids were like, "Look at all those school buses!" And I said, "That's where Mommy & Daddy went to school!" and they were like, "Oh.") The plan was to meet up with everyone around 10:00 am. Since we weren't too far from my parents' house, my sweet mom was able to take a few hours off of work & join us. Needless to say, the kids were beyond excited to go to a farm AND spend the morning with Yaya! We arrived to a parking lot crowded with SUVs, minivans & even a charter bus...and when we pulled out, there were four cars left...all belonging to the employees! There was SO  much to do for kids of all ages, I am SO glad we went (thank you, Sarah, for organizing such an awesome outing!) I am already pulling out my calendar & trying to find a weekend day that we can squeeze in another trip to take the big kids back...the corn maze, football toss, nature trails, tree house (and more!) would all definitely be fun for the older ones!
So here are some pics from our day...I got home, downloaded & realized I took 200 photos today! I promise not to share them all with you!
Drew thinks this place looks like it could be fun!
Darcy got to work right away helping Grady & Micah with the train signals!
Cute pumpkin house!
First chore of the day for the farm hands...till the soil to plant some corn kernels
Tilling
Planting
(There was also a watering step that I forgot to document!)
And now waiting for the seeds to grow!
Up next, feeding the goats & sheep!

It really doesn't get any cuter than kids walking carrying a pail!
Collecting "eggs" from the chicken coop

 Next chore, "milking" the cow

 Then feeding the goats!

This little guy was a bit of a bully, butting all the other kids away & going for all of the food himself. (I am, of course, referring to goat!)
 Drew & his buddy Sawyer

Hurry, hurry, it's time for the hay ride!
First we turned in the "fruits" of our labors...
And the kids received their wages, $2 in Aw Shucks Bucks.
 Hay ride cuties!
Drew holding on to his bucks & telling me "No" he will not smile for the camera, even with pretty Sadie beside him!
Yaya & Lucy enjoying the ride!
Sarah (The outstanding outing organizer!) and her sweet kiddoes
Lucy looking everywhere but at the camera
 Always our happy, easy-going girl!
Drew still holding onto his bucks, now sitting by Sadie's sister, Savannah!
 I found a pumpkin...actually, I found two!
 Decisions, decisions...
Darcy picked out her perfect pumpkin!
It doubles as a hat
Drew has finally found the perfect one! He told me the stem is like a squirter, "Spray, spray, spray!"
Oh, I forgot about all of these, I may need to reconsider my decision...
And finally, he has settled on one with a long straight stem! Oh, but there are more...
 Micah, Annalyse & Grady
 Drew, Lucy & Darcy
 Drew's driving...
 Hold on tight girls!
 My cute cowgirl!!

 Drew visiting a friend
Darcy & Harper playing in the corn trough
Micah driving the tractor, Drew is checking the tires
Drew is putting it into gear
 Look out, here I come!
Sweet Lu is tired from all the hard work!
 Finally, time for lunch!
And then there is so much more to explore!
Hurry Mom, snap it quick...
...I have lots more running to do!
 Love!
You can't see me!
 Deep thoughts

Yes, it has been a really, REALLY, REALLY fun day!
One last picture before we hit the road!
And if I hadn't been driving & like actually concentrating on the road ahead of me, I would have totally snapped a picture of my passengers not five minutes after we pulled out of the parking lot...three kids wiped out & sound asleep!
Hard work, fresh air, farm living...now that's a good life!
