Wednesday lunch with my girl

I'm a little bit late again...but a "day" in my book lasts until I go to bed...so even if I'm going to bed way too late, it's still today!

Today was supposed to be the first big field trip for Sophie's class this year...to an outdoor ranch/zoo where you can feed the animals right off a big wagon. It is one of our family's favorite places to go! But it rained all day yesterday & well into this morning, so they ended up postponing the outing. And truly, who can argue? I mean getting up close & personal with a bunch of animals in the rain & mud, well that dramatically decreases the fun factor of the trip. But Sophie had been SO excited to go on the trip. For days she kept telling me what she needed to take (a sack lunch) & how she needed to dress (sweatshirt, rain boots, & raincoat, just in case...but no umbrellas because they could get left behind!) I figured she may be a little bummed about the cancellation. I decided a little pick-me-up was in order, so Drew, Lucy & I surprised Sophie by going to have lunch with her.
We happened to be unloading the car when her class was walking by to the cafeteria & I was so happy to see her eyes light up to see us! We followed her class inside & Sophie invited a friend to sit with us at the "special" lunch booths.
I had included a little "lunch mail" for Sophie to read...of course, I thought Sophie would be eating at the ranch, so I asked her to say hello to all the animals for me. She thought that was really funny!
Lucy enjoyed watching the all the people & kids coming and going all around her. Everyone stopped to comment on how cute she looked in her adorable hat...and I have to agree, she is pretty adorable!
Sophie & her sweet friend, Savannah
Drew was such a big boy & had so much fun
After lunch was over, we packed up & headed out. Drew wanted to hitch a ride with Lucy.
Once outside, Drew did his new favorite thing...which is exploring, i.e. walking in any direction that is not the direction we need to go. (All the rain puddles lately have been like a wonderland for Drew, he has to stop & jump in every one!)
But we were not in a hurry, and well, he's just a whole bucket of cuteness,
so I let him do a little exploring...
And I just snapped cute pictures!
We had so much fun surprising Sophie for lunch, and I was pleasantly surprised at how well Drew did. I have been reluctant to take everyone to school to have lunch, but I am definitely going to do this more often. Next week I think we will go back one day to surprise Jack.

Oh, and while I'm talking about my sweet Sophie girl, I will brag on her a tiny bit. Last week during chapel, Sophie was one of the kids who received a character trait award. She was recognized for showing great compassion & understanding to everyone around her! We are so proud of our girl's huge heart for loving & encouraging others! Thank you God for our sweet Sophie!

Yeah! So glad you were able to make Sophie's day special despite missing the field trip. And I have to agree little Lucy is just the cutest (though I'm not surprised with those Howard genes in her) Drew is really coming into his own character and not the "baby" anymore. Sweet day!
